Black Girl Magic Takes Over The 2016 Rio Olympic Games

What does Michelle Carter, Jenny Arthur, Simone Manuel, Simone Biles, and Gabby Douglas have in common? Well they all showed up and showed out during this year’s Olympic Games.

30-year-old Michelle Carter became the first U.S. woman to win the Olympic shot put gold medal. Jenny Arthur (22) set the new American weightlifting record. Simone Manuel (20) became the first African American female swimmer to win an Olympic gold. Simone Biles (19) won the all-around competition for gymnastics and is being called the greatest gymnast of all time. And of course, we are already acquainted with Ms. Gabby Douglas (20) and her All-Around Olympic title.

There was so much black girl magic flourishing during this year’s Olympic Games and we couldn’t be more proud. These ladies truly represented. If you needed any inspiration, there’s a good dose of it coming from these amazing wins. Who said representation didn’t  matter?
