China wants nothing to do with Hip Hop.

There’s been a recent ban created to stop hip hop culture from being represented in the media in China. They are also putting an end to casting actors that have tattoos.

These bans come from China’s top media regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

The publicity department even released four of their “Don’t” rules:

Absolutely do not use actors whose heart and morality are not aligned

with the party and whose morality is not noble.

Absolutely do not use actors who are tasteless, vulgar and obscene.

Absolutely do not use actors whose ideological level is low and have no class.

Absolutely do not use actors with stains, scandals and problematic moral integrity.

The country has already started to remove rappers from the media who violate the set of rules they have created.

China banning hip hop is interesting, especially since China is a known consumer of black/african culture in general. The move to ban an entire form of culture is a bold move.

This also says a lot about how people outside of hip hop culture actually view hip hop.

What are your thoughts on China deciding to ban hip hop culture from televison?
