Founded in 1994, Amazon started out as an online bookstore. It has since become the largest internet-based retailer of just about everything you can think of, from clothing to food.

Amazon’s expansion has been pretty massive. The company’s reach has grown so much, reports are saying it could be threatening Walmart’s spot, especially since it acquired Whole Foods earlier this year. Amazon is no longer just a force on the internet but it’s becoming a force in retail period.

Amazon will now be opening a second headquarters very soon, and will be investing over “$5 billion in construction”. Of course, this has caught the attention of many cities. According to reports, “Amazon has received 238 proposals from cities and regions in North America interested in becoming home to its second headquarters.” Even Stonecrest, Georgia has submitted a proposal to be the official location for Amazon’s headquarters, and “offered to change its name to Amazon and make CEO Jeff Bezos mayor if selected.”

A second headquarters for Amazon could mean over 50,000 new job opportunities. So whichever location Amazon choose to set up shop, will surely benefit in a major way.
