The black community still struggles with getting money circulated within the community but we are making strides. As the group with the largest buying power, it’s imperative that we start to pay attention to where our coins are going.
Investing in our communities is how we will preserve them. Gas stations are everywhere. We all need gas, it’s a commodity in high demand within our society. Well Colisha Hicks and her fiancé who goes by the name Fatz, decided to open a Citgo. Now the couple has put themselves in the history books for having the first African American owned gas station in Clayton County.
The predominately black area should have more black-owned businesses. Perhaps this couple will start a “buy back the block” trend. “We should have something to contribute to our people and let our people know that we can do the same thing that everybody else does,” Fatz told 11Alive News.
The community is celebrating this win with them. The owners will be having an official grand opening sometime during the month of August.
