Alton Sterling was a 37-year-old man who was shot and killed on July 5th of this year by police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (see: Alton Sterling: Shot and Killed By Police for Selling CDs Outside of Store)

His murder affected the nation and caused many civilians to want to take a stand on the injustice.

The creator of the hit web series Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae, was one of those people who actually fought back with action. Within 24 hours of Sterling’s murder, Issa Rae raised $325k which has since increased to over $672K, and is set to go towards a scholarship fund that will send Sterling’s 5 children to college.

She posted a GoFundMe link on her Twitter page and the money started rolling in from there.

The link is still live and active and people are still making pledges. There’s still time to donate if you would like to support the cause.
