Hidden Figures tell the story of Katherine G. Johnson, the brilliant African-American mathematician and space scientist.

The biographical drama will star Taraji P. Henson as Katherine G. Johnson, Octavia Spencer as mathematician Dorothy Vaughn, and Janelle Monae as mathematician Mary Jackson.

The story takes place in the 60’s and shares the journey of these three African American women who fearlessly shattered glass ceilings and made history. Katherine G. Johnson in particular,

is known for calculating the trajectory for the flight that put the first American in space and  Johnson’s contribution to the 1962 spaceflight of John Glenn, the first American to orbit the earth is what the movie is based around.

While Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer have already proven to be great actresses, this movie will be a great opportunity for Janelle Monae to showcase her acting skills. From the trailer, it looks like she just may be a natural.

Hidden Figures is set to be released January 13, 2017.
