If you are active on Instagram, you may have noticed the spike in spam comments. The Instagram trolling has been at in all time high as well, which can be very annoying.

Especially if you are a celeb, or anyone with a high follower count, for some reason trollers tend to target these people the most. Some of the comments are very hateful and downright abusive and no one should have to deal with those type of trolls.

Who are these people anyway? The people who dedicate so much time and energy spewing negativity and hate from behind a screen? More than likely it’s just some high school students with no friends and a whole lot of time on their hands.

Luckily Instagram has finally addressed this ongoing issue and may have found a solution.

They will be releasing a new tool that will filter through comments and allow you to block abusive comments. It is said you will be able to ban certain words from showing up in the comment section of your photos.

“Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and most importantly safe place for self-expression. We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience,” stated the company’s head of public policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco.

Instagram has started to offer the tool to high-profile accounts first, but the tool will eventually be available to all Instagram users soon. This is great news for the social media platform, hopefully we will begin to see a decrease in online harassment and trolling.
